"Chris Schlichting leaves us wanting more in a sharp, smart program." - Star Tribune, 2/1/13
Matching Drapes is a new work that lives between presentational dance and more awkward and intimate every day gesture; from moments of exposed discomfort to poetic ease and virtuosity, from questions about choreographic authorship to personal association.
Chris Schlichting is a Minnesota-based choreographer, performer, and curator. His work has been presented by venues throughout Minnesota, including the Southern Theater, the Bryant Lake Bowl and the Walker Art Center; in New York at Danspace Project, and as a frequent contributor to CATCH! performance series. His work has also been presented at ODC in San Francisco, CA; at Velocity in Seattle, WA and at Fusebox Festival in Austin, TX. Other current projects include a commission for the Ballet Works Project with the James Sewell Ballet and a commission from the Walker Art Center for a new work to be performed in celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Sculpture Garden in August of 2013. Chris has enjoyed collaborations with many of his esteemed Minneapolis colleagues, including Hijack, Justin Jones, Kristin Van Loon, and Morgan Thorson. By day Chris advises Architecture and Landscape Design Planning undergraduates in the College of Design at the University of Minnesota.
