Red Eye Theater will present 11 original performance pieces as part of the New Works 4 Weeks Festival, taking place at In the Heart of the Beast Puppet & Mask Theatre in May and June 2020. Widely recognized as one of the most dynamic platforms for contemporary performance in Minnesota, the festival anchors Red Eye’s itinerant 36th season. Each year since the inception of Works-in-Progress in 1983, a cohort of artists supports each other’s work through critical feedback, fostering collaboration, experimentation, and critical discourse.
The 2020 commissioned artists have their fingers on the pulse, investigating urgent questions around who we are, where we are located, how to navigate power, and why we might gather in today’s shifting cultural landscape. This incubator of new work is a cornerstone of the Twin Cities performance scene, culminating in a showcase of the freshest experiments from Minnesota’s most risk-taking performing artists.
