SuperGroup and Red Eye Theater present Fine, a work of fits and starts dedicated to the uselessness of performance in all its glory (useless as a function of useful); dedicated to a community of artists, audience, and supporters that know to not know; dedicated to Mary and wolves and the escape of new pathways. With bitingly absurd humor, a dance language built on 14 years of collaboration, and a few moving blankets, Fine explores how performance extends the self, how we agree on anything, and how we move on. Imagining and reimagining performance that stretches, blurs, and binds a world where time and space are in horizontal equity with story, movement, character, shape and emotion, SuperGroup invites audiences into a requiem of the past several years—or of a whole lifetime.

Original lighting design by Heidi Eckwall. Original sound and music by Crystal Myslajek.

Started in 2008, SuperGroup is the collaboration of Jeffrey Wells, Erin Search-Wells, and Sam Johnson. Rooted in the body and committed to the unknown, SuperGroup has made over 40 performances, including cabarets, evening-length productions, and performance installations at the Red Eye Theater, Bedlam, Southern, Bryant Lake Bowl, Walker Art Center, Invisible Dog/Joyce Soho, SCUBA touring network, Public Functionary and most recently with the Spit Take Comedy Series. They have been McKnight Choreographer fellows (2017), Walker Art Center Choreographers’ Evening curators (2019), and recently completed a COVID-postponed MANCC residency at Florida State University (2022).
